It is brutal seeing this happen again. I have been at Autodesk for a few years now, and the constant talk of 'optimization' has completely destroyed the company culture. It feels like we are just numbers on a spreadsheet that need to be adjusted for quarterly reports rather than human beings contributing to the product. At this point, everyone is just waiting for the next calendar invite that shouldn't be there. It’s hard to focus on actual development when you’re constantly looking over your shoulder wondering if your department is next on the chopping block.
Honestly, the writing has been on the wall for a while. Leadership keeps pitching these 'strategic shifts' as a way to innovate, but it’s painfully obvious that we are just trimming payroll to keep Wall Street happy. When you see core teams getting gutted, you know the focus isn't on product quality or long-term growth anymore. The mood in the office is incredibly tense, and even the high performers are starting to update their resumes. It’s a sad state of affairs when a company this size can't seem to find a path forward without resorting to mass layoffs every single year.
