Signs of a potential RIF at Autodesk?

I’ve noticed a massive uptick in locked projects and budget freezes across my department over the last two weeks. Usually, when the finance team starts clamping down on minor discretionary spend like this, it’s a precursor to a larger headcount adjustment. My lead has been dodging 1:1s more frequently and when we do meet, they refuse to discuss the roadmap past the next six weeks. It feels like we are being set up for a 'strategic alignment' announcement soon. Does anyone have any insight into whether we’re expecting a reduction in force soon? I’d rather know now so I can start prepping, but the silence from the top is deafening. I’m starting to suspect that the recent rumors about 'efficiency drives' aren't just empty corporate jargon.

I have been hearing the same rumors from folks in the EMEA region. It is classic Autodesk behavior—they tighten the purse strings on travel and software licenses exactly two months before a restructuring announcement. If your lead is ghosting your 1:1s, take it as a massive red flag. They likely already know the number of positions being cut and are under strict orders to keep quiet until HR gives the green light. Start updating your portfolio and polish your resume now; it is better to be prepared than to be blindsided when the email hits your inbox.

Honestly, the lack of visibility into the roadmap is the biggest tell here. When leadership stops talking about long-term goals, it usually means the team structure is about to be gutted. I went through the last round of layoffs, and the atmosphere was identical to what you are describing. Don’t waste time waiting for a formal explanation that will never come. Use your remaining access to back up your personal work files and reach out to your professional network while you are still employed. Good luck, it’s a tough spot to be in.
