Anyone else feel like the culture is shifting away from autonomy?

Been with one of the subsidiaries for a few years now. Usually, we operate with total independence, but the last couple of quarters feel different. Corporate has been requesting way more granular data than they ever used to. It feels like they’re preparing for a massive audit or trying to identify which segments aren't pulling their weight. Every time my manager hops on a call with Omaha, they come back looking like they’ve seen a ghost. Is anyone else sensing this pivot? It feels like the hands-off approach that made this place unique is slowly being replaced by typical bureaucratic pressure. Really hoping I’m just overthinking it, but the vibe in the office has been noticeably tighter lately.

I've noticed the same trend lately. It seems like the era of complete autonomy is being replaced by a more centralized oversight model. The requests for granular data used to be once a year, but now it’s becoming a constant stream. My team feels the pressure, and it’s definitely hurting morale. It feels like the old-school decentralization Buffett championed is quietly fading away, and honestly, it’s making us all wonder what the long-term plan is for the subsidiaries.

You're definitely not imagining things. The atmosphere in my segment has been tense for months. Corporate is digging into metrics that they haven't touched in a decade, and the 'Omaha ghost' look is a common sight around here lately. It’s a total shift from the hands-off culture we were promised when we joined. I suspect they’re clearing the deck for the inevitable transition, which usually doesn't end well for those of us caught in the middle of the reporting chains.
