Newport site closure—anyone getting severance details?

Just saw the WARN notice hit for the Campbell/Newport office. 204 people is a massive chunk for that location. I’ve been trying to ping my contacts in the regional office, but everyone is tight-lipped or already locked out of their internal systems. It’s wild because we always heard that Berkshire entities were the 'safe' place to be during downturns—decentralized, hands-off, all that. Now it feels like the corporate efficiency mandate is finally reaching the smaller subsidiaries. Has anyone actually received their packet yet? I'm curious if they’re offering the standard package or if there's any room to negotiate given the sudden nature of this. Really sucks to see this happening out of the blue. Good luck to everyone affected, hopefully, the severance is at least enough to bridge the gap for a few months.

The 'safe haven' narrative has definitely taken a hit lately. I was at one of the acquired firms when they started tightening the budget, and the decentralized structure stopped feeling like a buffer and started feeling like a lack of clear direction. When the axe falls, those hands-off managers usually have zero answers because they were just as blindsided as the staff. Start updating your resume immediately and don't count on anyone internal to give you the straight scoop on severance packages until the paperwork is physically in your hand.

Man, I hate to see this happening. The whole 'Berkshire is untouchable' myth really doesn't hold water when the bottom line gets squeezed. It seems like the era of being a quiet, independent sub is over, and now everyone is expected to hit those aggressive margins or get cut. I’d suggest checking your state's labor department website—they often have more details on the WARN compliance and payout mandates than your own HR will share right now. Keep your head up, this is purely a cold business decision.
