Severance package - what to expect?

Okay, hypothetical question (but also maybe not so hypothetical, given the current climate). What does Boeing typically offer in terms of severance? I'm a level 4 engineer in BCA, been with the company for 5 years. Trying to get a sense of what I might be looking at if the worst happens. Is it weeks per year of service? Is there continued healthcare? Any info is appreciated. Also, any tips on negotiating a better package? Never been through this before and feeling pretty anxious.

Hey, sorry to hear you're going through this stress. From what I've heard (and seen from former colleagues), Boeing severance is generally weeks per year of service, often two weeks per year worked, but it definitely depends on your specific role and if it's a voluntary or involuntary layoff. Continued healthcare (COBRA) is usually offered, but you'll be paying the full premium. As for negotiating, definitely try! You can try to negotiate for additional weeks, outplacement services, or continued benefits. Document everything! Good luck, I hope it doesn't come to that.

Five years as a level 4? Honestly, don't get your hopes too high. Boeing is notoriously stingy. Expect the bare minimum required by law and whatever is stated in your employment agreement. Healthcare will be COBRA, expensive and short-term. Negotiating? Forget about it. They have the upper hand, especially with mass layoffs looming. Start updating your resume NOW and networking aggressively. Don't waste time planning around money you don't have yet. Been there, done that, got the t-shirt (and the smaller-than-expected severance check).
