Severance Package Question - What to Expect?

Hypothetically speaking, if Boeing were to announce layoffs, what kind of severance package could a person with 12 years at the company expect? I'm in supply chain and heard some concerning things from a friend in HR. Never been laid off before so I'm totally clueless. Number of weeks based on tenure? Continued benefits? Outplacement services? I'm trying to get a handle on what I might be facing if the worst happens. Any insight or past experiences shared would be much appreciated. Just trying to be prepared.

I can't give specifics for Boeing, but in my experience with other aerospace companies, severance is usually tied to years of service. Expect something around 2 weeks per year, maybe a bit more. They'll likely cover benefits for a month or two, and outplacement services are pretty standard. Don't be afraid to negotiate! Get everything in writing, and consider consulting an employment lawyer to review the offer before you sign anything. Knowledge is power, especially in times like these. Good luck to you.

Take anything you hear from HR with a massive grain of salt. They are there to protect the company, not you. My experience with Boeing (different division, years ago) was pretty bare bones, and that was during profitable times! Don't assume you'll get anything generous. Start updating your resume and networking now, before any official announcement. Best to be proactive and have options lined up. Hope it's nothing, but prepare for the worst.
