Anyone else hearing whispers about Q3 headcounts?

Is anyone else feeling the tension in the office lately? I’ve been at BorgWarner for a few years now, and the atmosphere feels different. We keep hearing about the push toward electrification and the portfolio changes, but the communication from leadership has been radio silent regarding actual numbers. I noticed a few contractor roles weren't renewed last week, which usually happens before internal moves. It’s hard to stay focused on the project deliverables when there’s this constant anxiety that the floor might drop out from under us. My manager keeps saying everything is fine, but we all know that’s their script. I’ve started brushing up my resume just in case, but I’d rather not have to jump ship if the rumors are just noise. Has anyone heard anything concrete about restructuring plans for the coming quarter, or are we just reacting to the general doom and gloom in the automotive sector right now? I'm just trying to figure out if I should be expecting a calendar invite I don't want.

The mood on the floor is definitely off. I’ve noticed the same thing with the contractors—it’s the classic lead-up to a broader restructuring. When leadership stops being transparent about the electrification transition and starts tightening the purse strings on external help, it’s a massive red flag. Don't waste your energy stressing over project deliverables right now; just document your wins, update your resume, and keep your head down. It’s better to be prepared for the worst than caught off guard when the official memo finally drops.

I’ve been through a few of these cycles here, and the silence is always the worst part. Honestly, the lack of communication is deliberate—they don't want us jumping ship before the next phase of the portfolio shift is locked in. If you're feeling the tension, trust your gut. It’s not just in your head. People are nervous for a reason. Just do the bare minimum required to keep your manager happy and spend your extra time networking outside the company. At this point, loyalty to the company won't protect you if your department is on the chopping block.
