Did anyone else notice the hiring freeze suddenly went into effect?

Seriously, I was told we were actively recruiting for my team (software engineering, been here 4 years), and then yesterday all the open reqs just vanished. My manager looked really uncomfortable when I asked about it. It feels like something big is coming, but nobody is saying anything. It's like they're waiting for a specific date or something. My previous company did this right before a massive wave of layoffs. Just trying to get a sense if this is localized to my org or a company-wide thing. Anyone else seeing this happen?

That sounds incredibly unsettling. My team hasn't explicitly mentioned a freeze, but the pace of approvals for even minor things has slowed to a crawl. Recruiters have gone dark on a couple of roles we were excited about. It's definitely not just you. The silence from management is the worst part – it leaves everyone's imagination running wild with worst-case scenarios. Hope it's just a temporary budget adjustment or something less ominous.

I'm not seeing any official announcement about a hiring freeze across the board. My department is still interviewing for several key positions. Could it be specific to your division or perhaps a recent reorganization that hasn't been communicated broadly yet? Sometimes internal shifts cause these things without it being a company-wide policy. Try to get more clarity from HR or a trusted senior person if possible before assuming the worst.
