Feeling the pressure to do more with less

It’s becoming a running joke on my team that we are expected to cover three people’s worth of work despite the supposed 'hiring pause.' The workload in the engineering department is becoming genuinely unsustainable. Every time someone leaves for a better offer, they don't backfill the role, they just dump the responsibilities on the rest of us with a 'we're all a family' talk. It’s exhausting. The rumor mill is constantly churning about potential downsizing, and honestly, at this point, part of me wonders if a layoff would even be worse than the current burnout culture. Has anyone actually seen a clear path to advancement lately, or is everyone just waiting for the next round of cuts? I’m starting to look at other ISPs just to see if the grass is actually greener, because the current environment at Charter is definitely wearing thin. I’m tired of being told to do more with less while the expectations keep climbing.

I’ve been feeling the exact same burnout lately. It’s reached the point where the 'we're a family' line feels like a direct insult when they refuse to backfill positions. The expectations are completely disconnected from the actual headcount we have left, and it's demoralizing to watch talented people leave for better opportunities while we just get handed their workload as a reward. Everyone is waiting for the next shoe to drop, and the constant stress is making it impossible to focus on actual projects instead of just firefighting.

Honestly, the writing has been on the wall for a while now. They keep pushing these efficiency metrics, but all it does is drive the good people out the door. If they aren't going to hire replacements, they should at least be honest about what work is getting deprioritized, rather than acting like everything is business as usual. It’s just burning out the ones loyal enough to stay until they finally snap. Don't feel guilty about looking elsewhere; the company certainly isn't going to look out for you.
