Severance package after Northampton layoff - what's standard?

So, I was one of the 175 laid off from the Northampton plant yesterday. I was in logistics, been with Coke for about 5 years. They gave me the standard package info, but honestly, I was too stunned to really process it all. Trying to figure out if what they offered is typical for a company like this, or if I should be pushing for more. Does anyone have experience with Coke severance packages from past layoffs, or know what's generally considered fair? Looking at things like weeks per year of service, health insurance continuation, and any outplacement services. Any advice would be appreciated as I navigate this.

That's rough, man. I'm sorry to hear about the Northampton plant. Five years is a decent chunk of time. Honestly, it's hard to say what's 'standard' without knowing the specifics of their policy, but generally, larger corporations *can* be a bit stingy. Definitely reread everything they gave you carefully. See if there's anything in there about negotiation or if it's truly a take-it-or-leave-it situation. Don't be afraid to ask for clarification on any point you're unsure about.

Ouch, 175 people is a lot. Logistics isn't an easy field to be in right now. While it stings, sometimes the 'standard' package *is* just that – standard for them. Companies often have these things pre-baked to avoid lengthy individual negotiations. Focus on understanding what it covers: health benefits continuation, outplacement services, and of course, the cash. Maybe try to connect with some of the other folks laid off to see if there's a group consensus or if anyone has a lawyer looking at it. Strength in numbers, you know?
