Is anyone else seeing a hiring freeze across departments?

Been hearing a lot of chatter lately about all new requisitions being put on hold, even for critical roles. My team's been trying to backfill a position for months and suddenly it's 'frozen, pending review'. This feels like a soft layoff precursor to me. Anyone else in Engineering or Ops seeing this? I'm in Network Engineering, about 7 years in. Feels like the budget cuts are starting to bite harder than usual. Just trying to gauge if this is a company-wide thing or if my specific division is being targeted.

Yeah, I've been hearing similar things in Tech Ops. Our manager mentioned that new hires are on hold indefinitely, and even internal transfers are being scrutinized. It's definitely creating some tension and uncertainty. The 'soft layoff' theory is definitely on a lot of people's minds. Hopefully, it's just a temporary budget recalibration, but it's hard not to worry when you see critical roles going unfilled for so long. Hang in there, hopefully, we get some clarity soon.

Interesting you bring this up. I'm in Customer Service, and we haven't seen any hiring freezes on our end. In fact, we're actively trying to hire more reps to handle the increased call volume. Maybe it's department-specific? Or perhaps it's a signal that they're prioritizing certain areas over others. Network Engineering is pretty specialized, so maybe they're shifting resources or consolidating teams. Keep an eye on how it plays out, but don't jump to conclusions just yet. Might be worth talking to HR directly about the process.
