Performance review season is...intense.

So, performance reviews just wrapped up for my department and man, they felt like a whole different ballgame this year. Usually, it's a fairly standard process, maybe some constructive criticism. This time, it felt like they were really digging deep, focusing on 'areas of improvement' that felt a bit...pointed. I know reviews are always about development, but the tone felt more critical than ever. Anyone else experience this? It's making me wonder if this is just a company-wide push for higher standards, or if it's setting the stage for something else down the line. Just trying to make sense of it all.
