Performance reviews feeling extra critical lately?

Hey all, has anyone else felt like performance reviews have gotten significantly more intense recently? Mine just wrapped up, and it felt like they were really digging for negatives, even on things that felt like standard performance. It's not just me; I've chatted with a couple of colleagues on different teams, and they've had similar experiences. There's definitely a sense of 'trimming the fat' even if no official cuts are happening. Wondering if this is a company-wide push to manage headcount down subtly, or if I'm just in a particularly tough department. Anyone else picking up on this vibe?

Absolutely. It feels like the goalposts have shifted, and what was once considered solid performance is now being scrutinized under a microscope. It's disheartening to put in consistent effort and then feel like you're constantly defending your contributions. The atmosphere is definitely more tense, and it makes it hard to stay motivated when you feel like you're always walking on eggshells. Hoping this is just a temporary phase.

Yeah, I've noticed it too. There's a definite shift in how feedback is being delivered. It's less about growth and development and more about identifying areas for improvement, sometimes to an excessive degree. Makes you wonder what the underlying strategy is. It's creating a bit of anxiety for sure, and I've heard similar comments from others. Definitely not feeling the usual positive vibe around evaluations right now.
