Anyone else getting the 'efficiency' email invites yet?

So the 176 number dropped today, but the vibe in the office is way worse than the actual count suggests. I’ve had two colleagues get pinged for 'quick syncs' with HR and their leads in the last three hours. Nobody is talking, everyone is just staring at their screens waiting for the ping. The official line is 'optimizing our workforce for future energy grid demands,' but we all know that’s just code for padding the numbers before the next quarterly review. I’ve been here long enough to know that when they start talking about synergy and grid modernization in the same breath as a head-count reduction, it’s not just the 176. It’s the start of the 'rolling' phase where they prune another few dozen every two weeks to keep the news cycles quiet. If you’re not looking at your LinkedIn right now, you’re making a mistake. I’ve already updated my resume and started reaching out to contacts at other utilities. ConEd isn't the stable sanctuary it used to be. Stay safe out there and start documenting everything before your access gets pulled.

Those emails are just the beginning. I remember the last time they sent out 'efficiency' invites; it started with the quiet meetings and ended with half the department cleared out by Friday. If you’re seeing HR pulling people into quick syncs, don't wait for the official memo to update your resume. Keep your head down, do your work, and prepare for the inevitable fallout. It’s a classic move to trim the budget before the investors get their hands on the quarterly reports. Good luck to everyone holding on, you’re going to need it.

Honestly, the vibe at ConEd has been suffocating for weeks. Everyone knows 'optimizing for grid demands' is just corporate speak for cost-cutting at our expense. It’s hard to stay focused when you’re constantly looking over your shoulder waiting for a calendar invite from HR. The atmosphere is tense, and the lack of transparency is reaching an all-time high. At this point, I think most of us are just counting down the days until we either get the tap or find somewhere else to land. Stay safe out there.
