Leadership gaslighting us about 'growth' while cutting

Is anyone else completely exhausted by the internal comms coming out of HQ? We get the town halls talking about future-facing materials, 5G growth, and innovation, all while they quietly drop another 80 people in California. How are we supposed to buy into the vision when the headcount keeps shrinking every single quarter? It’s impossible to plan a career here when you’re constantly wondering if your department is next on the chopping block. The work-life balance has gone out the window too, as they expect us to absorb the workload of the people they cut without adding resources. I’m officially dusting off the resume. I used to think this place was a 'lifer' company, but clearly, that era is long dead. If you’re still hanging on, what’s your actual plan? Is it worth staying for the next vest, or is it better to just jump ship now before the market gets even more saturated with Corning refugees?

It is the same old song and dance every quarter. They sell us this grand narrative about being a global leader in optical communications and material science, but the reality on the ground is just endless austerity. Watching colleagues get pushed out while leadership speaks in corporate buzzwords at town halls feels incredibly insulting. We are all just lines on a spreadsheet to them at this point, regardless of how much effort we put into our projects. It is hard to stay motivated when the company culture prioritizes stock buybacks and efficiency metrics over the people who actually build the products.

I stopped listening to those town halls months ago because the disconnect is just too painful to witness. When they start talking about 'optimizing our portfolio,' everyone in the room knows it is code for another round of layoffs. It is completely unsustainable to expect high-level innovation and commitment from a workforce that is perpetually living in fear of the next RIF. If they want us to buy into the long-term vision, they need to stop treating human capital as a disposable expense and actually start showing some real loyalty to the people keeping the lights on.
