Anyone else's team suddenly on hiring freeze?

My department was looking to bring on a couple of new engineers for a critical project, but we just got word that all open requisitions are on hold, effective immediately. No explanation, just 'budgetary review.' This feels pretty sudden given we were approved just last month. Is this a company-wide thing, or isolated to specific areas? Trying to figure out if this is a precursor to something more widespread or just a temporary pause for our division. Anyone else seeing hiring freezes or similar 'budgetary reviews' pop up unexpectedly?

Yeah, we're seeing something similar over here at Cummins. We had a few positions open for the new engine line project, but HR just put a hold on everything. They're citing a 'strategic realignment' which sounds like corporate speak for 'we're not sure what's happening either.' It's definitely unnerving when critical roles suddenly become unavailable with no clear reason. Hoping it's just a temporary lull and not a sign of bigger issues down the road.

Funny you ask, my team at Cummins just got hit with the same thing. We were all set to bring on two new folks for the emissions control systems upgrade, and suddenly our requisitions are ghosted. Management is being tight-lipped, just saying 'financial prudence.' It's creating a lot of stress on the existing team trying to pick up the slack. Curious to hear if others are experiencing this across the board or if it's just a localized headache.
