Hey everyone, been with Cummins for a few years now in engineering. Lately, the vibe just feels... off. Projects are being stretched, resources seem tighter than usual, and there's a lot of talk about 'optimizing' and 'streamlining' that sounds a little too much like code for something else. I haven't heard any specific layoff rumors on my floor, but the general atmosphere is definitely more anxious than it used to be. Anyone else in R&D or product development noticing similar trends? Are budgets being slashed in your departments? Just trying to get a pulse check on whether this is a company-wide thing or if I'm just overthinking it. Curious to hear what others are seeing, especially in the core engineering functions.

I've been in the industry for a while and have seen these cycles before. "Optimizing" and "streamlining" can definitely be corporate speak for cost-cutting measures that might impact headcount down the line. It's wise to be observant and prepare for possibilities, even without direct rumors. Networking and keeping your skills sharp are always good strategies in uncertain times.

Totally get where you're coming from. I'm not in engineering but I've heard whispers from folks in manufacturing about increased pressure to meet aggressive targets. The whole 'doing more with less' mantra seems to be echoing across different departments. It creates a palpable tension, and it's understandable why people are feeling uneasy about what it all means for the future.
