Is the mid-range engine division next on the block?

Does anyone have intel on what’s happening in the mid-range engine group? Seeing the news about the 46 layoffs in Davidson County has everyone in my office on edge again. We’ve been hearing rumblings about 'strategic realignment' for months, but the targets are never clear until the invite shows up on your calendar on a random Tuesday. I’ve been here for over six years and the atmosphere has shifted from a culture of engineering excellence to just staring at spreadsheets and waiting for the next shoe to drop. It feels like the company is just hacking away at limbs to keep the stock price buoyant for the quarter. Leadership keeps talking about 'operational efficiency' and 'streamlining,' but it’s just code for doing the work of two people for the same pay while looking over your shoulder. Honestly, if you aren't actively interviewing or updating your LinkedIn, you're playing a dangerous game. Is there any department left that isn't being scrutinized for 'cost synergy' right now? I'm curious if anyone has heard if the Q1 plan involves deeper cuts across the board or if they are going to keep doing these rolling, smaller-scale reductions to avoid a larger WARN notice. Stay safe out there.

The shift toward focusing entirely on stock performance over actual product quality has been obvious for a while now. I’ve seen this playbook before: they start with 'strategic realignment' buzzwords, cut the mid-range groups, and then wonder why the innovation pipeline dries up two years later. It’s exhausting watching long-term engineering talent get treated like disposable line items on a quarterly earnings call. Just keep your resume updated and stay alert, because those Tuesday morning invites aren't happening by accident.

I understand the anxiety, but honestly, Cummins has been pivoting hard toward their New Power segment for a while. The mid-range engines aren't necessarily on the block, but the investment is clearly being throttled to fund the push into hydrogen and battery tech. It’s a transition period for the whole company, not just your division. If you feel like your role is becoming purely administrative, it might be the right time to start looking elsewhere before the next round of restructuring hits your department.
