Sorry to hear about the layoff. It's tough. I haven't been through a Datadog layoff specifically, but generally, severance packages are often based on tenure. A common rule of thumb is 2 weeks of pay for every year of service, but it can vary. Make sure to also check if they're paying out accrued vacation time and if they're offering any extended health insurance benefits. Good luck with the job hunt!
Five years is a good chunk of time! I'd push for at least 4-6 months salary, especially if they haven't offered outplacement services. Don't be afraid to negotiate. The initial offer is rarely the best they can do. Also, compare what they're offering against what others in similar roles and tenure have received in tech layoffs recently. There are websites and forums dedicated to layoff data that might give you more leverage.
