Anyone else notice the hiring freeze is getting intense?

Been in procurement for about 4 years now, and it feels like the tap has been completely shut off. We haven't onboarded a new FTE in months, and even contract roles are getting shot down unless it's absolutely critical. Management keeps saying it's 'strategic realignment' but it feels like a prelude to something bigger. Budgets are tighter than I've ever seen them, and even routine expenses are getting scrutinized like crazy. Anyone on the hiring side seeing anything different, or is it just my department/division feeling the squeeze?

Yeah, it's definitely hitting procurement hard. I'm in a similar boat, though on the software side. We've had requisitions linger for weeks, and the 'critical' threshold seems to be moving further out every day. My team lead hinted that some projects are being deprioritized to free up funds for others that are deemed more essential for the next fiscal year. It's frustrating, but I suppose they have to make tough calls. Hang in there.

My experience has been a bit different, actually. While budgets are definitely tighter, we've still managed to bring on a couple of people in specialized engineering roles that were absolutely essential for a key product launch. It's not a broad hiring spree by any means, but if you're in a function that directly supports revenue generation or a critical business objective, there might still be some wiggle room. Keep documenting your team's impact and needs.
