Is it just me or is the 'delayering' talk more serious this time around?

Been here about 5 years in the Strategy practice, and lately, the conversations around 'organizational efficiency' and 'right-sizing' feel different. Usually, it's just corporate jargon, but there's a palpable shift. My team lead has been way more quiet about upcoming project pipelines, and even some senior managers seem a bit uneasy. Are others noticing this at their levels or in different parts of Consulting? Feels like more than just the usual end-of-year buzz. Trying to stay optimistic, but the lack of transparency is really starting to get to me. Anyone in a similar boat or hearing anything more concrete that isn't just rumors?

Yeah, I've definitely felt a similar vibe, though I'm in a different practice. The ambiguity around future projects and even some internal role discussions have been more pronounced than I recall. It's easy to dismiss it as typical consulting churn, but the quietness from leadership on certain fronts is hard to ignore. Trying to focus on delivering current work excellently, but it's definitely a weird atmosphere. Hoping it's just a strategic reset and not something more disruptive.

Honestly, I think it's just the usual end-of-year performance review cycle ramping up. Senior folks always get a bit cagey when budgets and headcount are being finalized. 'Organizational efficiency' is code for 'make sure you're hitting your utilization targets and bringing in the work.' Don't overthink it; keep your head down, deliver, and network. If your pipeline is quiet, proactive outreach to partners or seeking out internal opportunities is always the best bet, regardless of the 'buzz'.
