July 9th cuts - anyone else impacted?

Just got the calendar invite for a 'business update' meeting this morning. Within five minutes of the call starting, I was locked out of my laptop and email. It’s official—I’m part of the cohort let go today, July 9th. I’ve been with the firm for three years, high performer, consistently green utilization, and still, this happens. The severance package is decent but doesn't make up for the complete lack of transparency leading up to this. Has anyone heard if this was firm-wide or limited to specific service lines? I’m seeing some chatter online about numbers, but nothing concrete. Stay safe out there everyone, update your LinkedIn profiles and start pulling your personal documents before they kill your access entirely.

I'm really sorry to hear that. It’s absolutely brutal how they handle these departures, cutting off system access before the meeting even finishes. Three years of solid performance and green utilization should count for something, but it’s clear the firm is prioritizing cost-cutting over tenure and loyalty right now. It feels like these layoffs are being rolled out in waves across specific practice groups rather than being a firm-wide event, though nobody ever gets a straight answer from leadership. Take a few days to process everything before you even look at your severance paperwork. Your health and peace of mind matter more than their bottom line.

That’s standard procedure for them, unfortunately. They’ve been doing these rolling layoffs for months, and it’s always the same cold, impersonal script. It doesn't matter how high your utilization is or how many awards you’ve racked up; when the numbers aren't hitting, everyone becomes a line item on a spreadsheet. I wouldn't hold your breath waiting for transparency, as the firm culture is designed to keep everyone guessing until the very last minute. Keep your head up, reach out to your network now while you still have access to your contacts, and start polishing your resume. It’s a tough market, but you’ll land on your feet elsewhere.
