The 'strategic realignment' label is just corporate speak for cost-cutting to keep the partners' margins healthy. If you’ve been on the bench for six weeks without a firm rotation in sight, it is definitely time to update your LinkedIn. Don't waste energy building internal assets that won't save your seat. Take the hint, start networking outside the firm immediately, and keep your head down until you have an offer letter in hand. It’s a business, not a family, and they’ve already made their decision.
I went through a similar 'realignment' cycle a few years ago. It’s brutal watching the invites drop one by one. Honestly, if your PD is telling you to focus on internal work, they aren't fighting for your utilization—they’re just following the HR script. Prioritize your personal peace of mind and get those applications out. Whether you’re on the chopping block today or next month, you don’t want to be caught off guard when the portal access gets revoked. Stay sharp and look out for yourself first.
