Corporate culture post-layoffs: How are we surviving?

Honestly, the morale is completely dead. After the news about the 71 roles cut in Atlanta, nobody is getting any actual work done. We’re all just staring at our dashboards waiting for an email from HR to tell us if we still have a job by Friday. It’s hard to stay focused on performance metrics when you’re literally watching your team shrink every few weeks. They expect us to do the work of three people with half the resources and zero support. When is enough finally enough? I’ve been updating my resume every night because the 'transparency' they promised in the last town hall was a total joke. If you made it through the first two waves, are you actually staying, or are you just waiting for the next round to collect the severance? I feel like I'm just running down the clock at this point.

It is brutal out there right now. I completely understand the feeling of paralysis; it’s impossible to care about quarterly metrics when the person in the cubicle next to you is packing up their desk. The culture at Devon has shifted from high-performance to pure survival mode. When leadership prioritizes bottom-line optics over the people actually keeping the lights on, the institutional knowledge drain becomes inevitable. Protect your mental health, keep your resume updated, and remember that you are just a number on a spreadsheet to them, regardless of how many hours you put in.

I have been through three rounds of these cuts now, and it never gets easier. The 'do more with less' mantra is officially dead, and the remaining staff is justifiably burnt out. It feels like the company is cannibalizing itself just to satisfy investor expectations for a few months. My advice is to stop stressing over those performance dashboards. If they wanted us to be productive, they wouldn't have gutted the teams that actually support our workflows. Focus entirely on your exit strategy and network as much as you can before the next wave hits.
