Layoff Report

Confirmed: My entire department got the boot this morning

It finally happened. I got the invite at 9:00 AM sharp today. I was part of the group affected by the July 21st restructuring that hit the TV and Film teams. It’s brutal—I’ve spent the better part of the morning watching colleagues pack up their desks in near silence. There wasn’t even a proper send-off, just a generic Zoom call with HR reading from a script about 'strategic alignment.' I knew the writing was on the wall after the May reports, but you always hope that your specific unit is untouchable. Apparently, no one is. They didn't even give us a heads-up that today was the final day; we just lost server access mid-afternoon. If you’re still working at Disney, take this as your sign to save your contacts, download your performance reviews, and start networking yesterday. They are moving fast and aren't looking back at who they’re leaving behind. I’m just trying to figure out how to navigate the severance paperwork now, but the portal is lagging like crazy. Good luck to everyone still in the trenches—you’re going to need it.

I am truly sorry to hear this. It feels like every month there is more bad news coming out of the studio. The 'strategic alignment' line is such a corporate mask for the reality of losing people who built their careers there. Take the time you need to process this, because watching colleagues walk out like that is incredibly draining. Don't let their cold script make you feel like your contributions weren't valuable. You deserved better than a generic Zoom call after everything you put into those projects.

That is absolutely gutting. The way leadership handles these mass layoffs is consistently spineless, hiding behind HR scripts while people are still trying to pack up their lives. It has become a revolving door over there lately, and it is honestly exhausting to watch from the outside. Please don't let this outcome define your worth as a professional. Everyone sees right through the 'strategic' framing—it's just a bottom-line play. Wishing you the best of luck in finding a team that actually values their talent.
