Severance details for the 6/17 group

Just trying to aggregate some info for everyone affected by the latest round on June 17th. I was part of the group let go yesterday and the severance package felt surprisingly lean compared to what we saw in previous years. They’re offering the standard pay-in-lieu of notice, but the extended benefits coverage is shorter than expected. Has anyone managed to negotiate anything beyond the initial offer? I’ve heard rumors that if you have specific tenure milestones, they might be willing to budge, but HR has been completely silent on the internal message boards since the news broke. It’s a total ghost town. Also, for those of you who were impacted, have you received your COBRA paperwork yet? I’m still waiting on the official packet and the clock is ticking on my family’s health coverage. If anyone has contact info for someone in HR who is actually responding, a DM would be much appreciated. This whole process has been incredibly impersonal and honestly pretty insulting given the record margins we were reporting last quarter. Good luck to everyone out there on the job hunt—this market is brutal, but keep your heads up.

I was also part of that wave and it is frustrating to see how much they have scaled back. From what I have gathered talking to others, they are holding the line pretty firmly on the standard package unless you have a legitimate legal reason to challenge it or a very specific contractual clause. I tried to push back regarding my tenure and hitting a milestone, but the HR contact shut it down immediately by citing company-wide policy. It seems like their main goal is consistency so they can avoid setting precedents for future layoffs.

I am truly sorry you are going through this right now. It is wild how different the packages look compared to even just two years ago. I did hear from someone in my department that a few people tried to negotiate based on tenure, but they were told the package is non-negotiable across the board. It sounds like they are prepared for a lot of pushback and have scripted responses ready to go. Please make sure you double-check your total compensation breakdown before signing anything; sometimes they make small errors that you can actually leverage to get a bit more cash.
