Anyone else feeling like the Elastic culture is dead?

I’ve been trying to stay optimistic through the reorgs, but the vibe in the office—or what's left of it on Zoom—is just hollow at this point. After this June 26th layoff, it feels like we’re losing the people who actually understood the codebase and the community. It’s not just about the numbers; it’s about the institutional knowledge walking out the door. We’re being pushed to ship 'AI features' at a pace that is completely unsustainable, and now we have even fewer people to maintain the core engine. Are we still actually building search tech, or are we just a feature factory trying to satisfy the stock price for one more quarter? I’m genuinely wondering if there's a point to sticking around or if I should just start grinding LeetCode this weekend. Has anyone heard if there are more waves planned for Q3, or is this 'the' big one?

It is honestly heartbreaking to watch. I have been here long enough to remember when the engineering culture actually meant something. Now, it feels like every single decision is driven by optics rather than product stability. Watching the talent drain over the last few months has been brutal. When the people who wrote the foundational pieces of our stack decide they can no longer stomach the direction we are heading, you know the ship is taking on water. The constant pressure to pivot without the resources to back it up is burning out everyone who is left.

You aren't the only one feeling this way. The shift in atmosphere has been palpable lately, especially with the way the latest departures were handled. It feels less like a community-driven tech company and more like a standard, faceless corporate entity focused purely on the bottom line. We are losing the institutional memory that made this place unique, and no amount of top-down management directives can replace that. Most of us are just keeping our heads down and doing what we can, but the motivation to really care about the long-term vision has completely evaporated.
