Tips for navigating the interview process right now?
Got an interview loop scheduled for a senior SWE role next week. I know the market is rough and companies are being super picky. Any recent folks here who went through the process at Elastic? What are they focusing on these days? Is it still heavy on system design, or have they shifted more towards pure coding/behavioral? Trying to prep effectively and not waste my time on the wrong things. Any advice on what to emphasize or avoid would be greatly appreciated. Trying to nail this one.
Anyone else seeing their team's headcount shrinking?
Been at Elastic for almost 4 years now, mostly in the core search product area. Lately, it feels like my team's headcount has been slowly bleeding out. We lost two people last quarter, and just heard another role on a neighboring team is frozen. Management is being pretty tight-lipped, just saying 're-prioritizing' and 'strategic focus shifts'. It's making it really hard to plan projects and feels like we're constantly being asked to do more with less. Is this happening elsewhere, or is it just my corner of the org?
Just had the worst interview loop ever
So, I interviewed for a Senior Solutions Architect role last week and it was an absolute train wreck. First, the recruiter was 15 minutes late to the initial call. Fine, things happen. Then, the first interviewer spent the entire time grilling me about really obscure Lucene details, stuff I haven't touched in years. The next interviewer was clearly distracted and kept checking his phone. The system design round was okay, but the interviewer seemed totally disengaged. Finally, the hiring manager was 20 minutes late and didn't even apologize. Gave canned answers about the role and team, then rushed me off the call. I'm convinced they already had someone in mind and were just going through the motions. Honestly, after that experience, I'm not even sure I *want* the job anymore. What a waste of time.
Severance package - what to expect?
Okay, so hypothetically, if there were layoffs (and I'm not saying there ARE, but just *if*), what kind of severance package does Elastic usually offer? I've been here for 2.5 years, and I'm trying to get a sense of what I might be looking at. Is it weeks per year served? Is there a cap? Does it include benefits continuation? Any insights from people who've been through this before would be greatly appreciated. Trying to be prepared, just in case the rumors are true.
Heard whispers of restructuring in eng org - anyone else?
I'm a Staff Engineer on the Observability team, been with Elastic for about 4 years now. Lately, I've been hearing some concerning whispers about a potential restructuring within the engineering org. My manager has been acting a little cagey, and a few colleagues have mentioned similar vibes from their respective teams (mostly in the APM and Logging areas). Anyone else hearing anything, or am I just being paranoid? I'm not saying layoffs are a certainty, but the general feeling isn't great. Trying to gauge whether I should update the resume or not...
Rant: Overworked and Underappreciated!
I'm so burnt out. I've been grinding on this Kibana project for months, pulling late nights and weekends, and what do I get? Radio silence from my manager. The VP swoops in, takes credit for everything, and then asks us to do even MORE. I'm seriously considering jumping ship. The pay is good, I'll admit, but it's not worth sacrificing my mental health. If they are going to start cutting heads, I hope the ones making six figures and contributing nothing are first to go.
Severance Package - What to expect?
Hypothetically speaking, if Elastic were to have layoffs (again, hypothetically!), what kind of severance package could employees expect? I'm in sales and have been here for 2 years. Trying to get a sense of what my options would be if the worst happens. I've heard rumors, nothing concrete, but want to be prepared. Is it based on tenure? Do they factor in stock options at all? Trying to plan for the worst case scenario. Any insight from former employees or people with inside knowledge would be appreciated.
Is anyone else feeling super anxious about potential layoffs?
I've been at Elastic for almost 4 years now, on the Observability team as a Senior Engineer. Lately, things have felt...off. There's been a noticeable slowdown in hiring, and a lot of talk about 'restructuring' during our team meetings. I know the whole tech industry is kind of shaky right now, but Elastic always seemed more stable. Anyone else getting bad vibes? Or am I just being paranoid? I'm really worried about my mortgage, honestly. I've started discreetly updating my resume, just in case.
