Woke up to the calendar invite for the 'all-hands' meeting and knew immediately what was coming. The HR Digest report confirms the cuts went live this morning, but the company-wide communication was incredibly vague about the actual head count. It feels like they’re trying to avoid the bad PR of a specific number, but the rumor mill in the Slack channels (for those of us still here) is saying it’s closer to 8-10% of engineering. I’ve seen at least five people on my team get their access cut since 9 AM. If you were impacted, please update your status on LI—lots of people in the search space are already reaching out to help with referrals. It’s a gut punch, especially after the last quarter’s growth projections.

It is honestly insulting how they handle these layoffs. The cryptic emails and the immediate cutting of access are just standard operating procedure at this point to protect the stock price while the actual team suffers. If the 10% rumor holds any weight, they have effectively gutted the core engineering capacity without any regard for the people who built the product. Everyone I’ve spoken to is refreshing LinkedIn rather than working, and the morale is non-existent. Expect a wave of top-tier talent to jump ship by the end of the week.

I was expecting a bit more transparency this time around, but I suppose that was naive. The silence from leadership is deafening, and it makes the entire office environment toxic for those of us left behind. It’s always the same story: they prioritize the narrative over the humans who put in the overtime during the last sprint. I’ve already reached out to a few former coworkers who were cut today to see how they’re doing. If they are slashing numbers this aggressively, they are clearly hiding deeper issues under the hood.
