I'm a Staff Engineer on the Observability team, been with Elastic for about 4 years now. Lately, I've been hearing some concerning whispers about a potential restructuring within the engineering org. My manager has been acting a little cagey, and a few colleagues have mentioned similar vibes from their respective teams (mostly in the APM and Logging areas). Anyone else hearing anything, or am I just being paranoid? I'm not saying layoffs are a certainty, but the general feeling isn't great. Trying to gauge whether I should update the resume or not...

Yeah, I've heard rumblings too. I'm in Security, and we had a 'town hall' last week where leadership vaguely addressed 'challenges' and the need to 'optimize.' Classic corporate speak, but definitely felt like a prelude to something. I'd start polishing your resume, just in case. Better to be prepared than blindsided.

Honestly, this happens every year around this time. Elastic's always tweaking things. Remember the whole 'team consolidation' thing back in 2021? Sounded scary then, but most people just shifted roles. I wouldn't panic just yet. Maybe try to grab a coffee with your manager and ask directly. Direct communication is always the best policy instead of relying on water cooler gossip.
