The disconnect is real. I’ve sat through those same town halls, and it’s like they are living in a completely different reality. It’s exhausting to hear about 'innovation' and 'market leadership' when the internal infrastructure is held together by duct tape and sheer desperation. When you raise concerns, they just gaslight you with talk about resilience and mission-alignment. It’s clearly a top-down strategy to squeeze every drop of productivity out of the survivors until we burn out too, then they’ll just outsource or automate whatever is left.
Honestly, stop looking for empathy from leadership. They’ve crunched the numbers and realized that burning through staff is cheaper than fixing the underlying operational issues. If your manager is just parroting corporate scripts, they’ve already checked out themselves. Protect your own peace, do exactly what’s in your job description, and stop volunteering for those extra projects. They don’t reward the people who stay late and sacrifice their mental health; they just raise the baseline and expect more for the same pay.
