Anyone else seeing budget cuts / hiring freeze at EOG?

Been at EOG for about 5 years now, working in the Permian Basin operations team. Lately, things have felt... weird. We were told Q3 budgets are tighter than expected, and there's a complete freeze on all open requisitions. Even new hires for critical roles are on hold. My manager is being super cagey about it, just saying "economic headwinds." Anyone in other departments or regions hearing similar whispers? Feels like something's brewing, and I'm trying to gauge if it's just our group or company-wide. Worried about what this means for year-end reviews and potential future reductions. Trying not to panic, but it’s hard not to when the vibe is this off.

Yeah, I'm seeing similar things out here in the Delaware. Been hearing chatter about efficiency drives and a general belt-tightening for a few months now, but this requisition freeze is definitely new. My team's been told not to expect any new headcount, even for roles we've been trying to fill forever. "Economic headwinds" is the company line, but it feels more like a strategic shift. Keep your ears to the ground, and make sure your own performance is stellar. Best of luck navigating this.

Honestly, this cycle feels pretty normal for the industry, doesn't it? EOG has always been pretty lean, and they're notoriously good at managing costs. If the market's shaky or they're gearing up for a big acquisition, a hiring freeze isn't exactly shocking. I wouldn't read too much into it unless there are actual layoffs. Focus on what you can control – your work. They'll hire when they need to. This is just business as usual for oil and gas.
