Is the culture dying or is it just me?

I’ve been with EOG for a few years now, and honestly, the atmosphere has shifted massively since the start of Q1. Used to feel like we were actually focused on the engineering and the tech, but lately, it feels like every project is getting scrapped or moved to 'long-term review' while we lose talent. The transparency is non-existent. We get these town halls that are just 45 minutes of canned responses and zero actual reassurance about job security. Is it worth sticking around for the bonus or is it time to jump to one of the smaller mid-caps that aren't slashing staff? Feels like management is burning through the institutional knowledge just to show some cost-cutting metrics. I’m curious if anyone else feels like the ship is drifting or if I’m just being paranoid because of the recent headlines.

It’s definitely not just you. The shift over the last few months has been jarring. We used to pride ourselves on being the lean, efficient technical powerhouse of the Permian, but now it feels like we’re just another slow-moving bureaucracy. Projects that actually make sense are getting buried under layers of red tape, and the talent drain is becoming impossible to ignore. If you’re only staying for the bonus, start polishing your resume now. The internal mood is at an all-time low, and those canned town hall answers are only making people more cynical about leadership’s actual plan.

I’ve seen this cycle before, and it’s usually the precursor to deeper cuts. You’re right to be concerned about the lack of transparency; when the technical goals start shifting toward indefinite review periods, it’s a sign that the higher-ups are hedging their bets at the expense of our projects. Don't feel guilty about keeping your options open. The company has changed its priorities, and you need to look out for your own career trajectory before the next round of 'restructuring' happens. The culture isn't what it was even a year ago.
