Is the 'temporary' layoff language a standard practice now?

The recent news about the F-150 production shutdown leading to 'temporary' layoffs for UAW workers got me thinking. Back during the strike, we saw similar language used. It feels like a way to pause employment without the full commitment of a permanent layoff, but what does that really mean for the people affected? Will those roles actually come back, or is this just a prelude? I'm in a division that's been relatively stable, but the constant talk of adjustments, whether it's for strikes, supply chain issues, or strategic shifts like the EV focus, is creating a lot of anxiety. Anyone have experience with these 'temporary' situations at Ford and how they played out?

It's definitely concerning. That 'temporary' label can feel like a lifeline, but the uncertainty must be brutal for those workers.
