Anyone else feeling the pressure to 'do more with less'?

It’s getting exhausting. Between the recent announcement of 945 roles being cut in Michigan and the constant 'optimization' chatter, the morale at my site is at an all-time low. I’m currently doing the job of two people because my teammate was let go last quarter, and now my manager is acting surprised that we’re missing deadlines. How are you guys handling the burnout? I’m seriously considering updating my resume and checking out, but I know the market is tight. Are we expecting another round of cuts in Q2? It feels like the company is trying to trim everything down to the bare bones before a spin-off or a sale. I just don't see a long-term path here anymore without being expected to sacrifice my mental health for a paycheck that hasn't kept up with inflation. Just wanted to vent and see if I’m the only one feeling this way.

I feel your pain. The 'do more with less' mantra has become the standard script here lately, and it is completely unsustainable. When you combine the site layoffs with the expectation that productivity remains constant despite having half the staff, it’s just setting everyone up for failure. Management acts like they are surprised by the missed deadlines, but they are the ones who removed the resources necessary to meet them. If you can find an exit, take it. At this point, loyalty to the company is a one-way street, and prioritizing your own mental health is the only rational move left.

Hang in there, but definitely don't stop that resume update. The constant restructuring and vague talk about optimization are clearly just code for cost-cutting at the expense of the employees who are still here. It’s a toxic cycle: they cut headcount, the remaining staff burns out trying to fill the gaps, and then leadership acts confused when things start slipping through the cracks. It's not your fault that the workload is unmanageable. Protect your peace, do what you can while you're on the clock, and keep looking for something better because this current environment isn't going to get any easier.
