I was talking to a few guys on the floor yesterday and the mood is honestly bleak. Management hasn't said a word to us directly, which is just standard procedure at this point. From what I’m hearing, it’s not just one specific line getting hit; they’re spreading the cuts across several areas to keep production numbers looking okay on paper while gutting the headcount. If you haven't heard anything yet, don't assume you're safe. Keep your resume updated and start reaching out to your network now, because the lack of transparency is usually a sign that they’re still deciding who is next.
It is brutal out there. I worked at that site for three years before jumping ship last summer, and seeing this news confirms I made the right move. GE has a nasty habit of keeping everyone in the dark until the very last second, leaving people to scramble while they try to manage the stock price. Don't waste time waiting for a town hall or an honest email from leadership; they are looking out for shareholders, not the folks on the manufacturing floor. Take whatever severance you can get and don't look back at this place.
