Another 1000 gone at GM. What's the end game?

Just saw the news. Another 1000 layoffs, this time hitting Detroit. It's getting harder and harder to watch. Seems like every few months there's another round of cuts. I'm not even at GM, but I know people who are, and the uncertainty is palpable across the auto industry. They keep talking about 'restructuring' and 'focusing on EVs', but is this the only way to do it? Feels like they're bleeding talent and demoralizing the remaining workforce. Wondering what the long-term impact will be. Are they setting themselves up for failure by constantly shedding experienced people? Anyone else seeing this pattern and have any thoughts on where GM is heading with this approach?

It's a grim situation for sure. The constant layoffs create a cloud of anxiety, and it's understandable that people are questioning the strategy. While the shift to EVs is necessary for the future, the human cost of these 'restructurings' is immense. Losing experienced workers and the subsequent impact on morale is a serious concern. It makes you wonder if there are alternative approaches to navigate this transition without such drastic workforce reductions.
