Just saw the news about GM laying off another 1000 folks, this time hitting Detroit. June 22nd, so pretty recent. Feels like the hits just keep coming for this company. Wondering how many more rounds are left in them. This latest batch was apparently spread across a few different areas, but Detroit seems to be taking a significant chunk. Hard to stay positive when you see these numbers. My cousin works there and he's been on edge for months. He says morale is in the toilet. Everyone's looking over their shoulder. Survived the last round, feeling guilty AF

So, yeah, made it through the last 'reorganization' unscathed. Got to keep my job, same salary, same team. Except, like, half my team is gone. Good people, people I liked working with. And I'm just...here. Feeling super guilty about it. Anyone else feeling this way? Like, should I be looking for another job just because I feel like I don't deserve to still be here? Or am I just being overly sensitive? The workload has definitely increased, and morale is in the toilet. I'm a hardware engineer in Milford, working on future vehicle programs. Just needed to vent I guess.

Stock just tanked... think it's layoff szn?

Seriously, did anyone see the after-hours drop? It's gotta be more than just macro stuff, right? I'm in software, been here about 5 years and seen a couple of these cycles before. Always feels like the stock takes a hit, then a month or two later, bam, 'restructuring' or 'right-sizing' or whatever euphemism they're using this time. Thinking of leaving... what are my chances of getting rehired later?

Just got canned. This sucks.

Well, it finally happened. Got the call this morning. Laid off. I was a software engineer in the infotainment group, been with the company for 5 years. They said it was a 'restructuring' and my position was 'eliminated.' BS. They walked me out the door like a criminal. Five years of my life, gone. The severance is okay, I guess, but it doesn't make up for the stress and uncertainty. I'm angry, I'm scared, and honestly, I'm just really bummed. Time to start the job hunt, I guess. Any advice on where to start?

Severance package - what to expect?

Hypothetically speaking, if GM were to announce layoffs, what kind of severance package are we looking at? I've heard whispers of 2 weeks per year of service, plus outplacement services, but I'm not sure how accurate that is. Seriously, what's with the interview process here??

I had an interview for a Senior Software Engineer position last week.
