Lansing cuts - anyone else feeling the heat?

Is anyone else here actually surprised by the news today? We knew the 2026 targets were aggressive, but seeing 361 people get the email this morning is still a gut punch. It’s always the same vague 'strategic restructuring' corporate speak, but it doesn't mask the fact that people who have been here for a decade are just being wiped off the roster overnight. My manager is acting like everything is business as usual, but the mood on the floor is absolutely dead. How many more rounds are we expecting before the end of Q4? I’ve started updating my resume, but with the current state of the auto market, I’m not sure where to even pivot. If you’re one of the ones impacted today, I’m truly sorry—this place just doesn’t feel like it has any loyalty to the workforce anymore.

I honestly stopped being surprised years ago. Every time GM talks about 'streamlining' or 'strategic pivots,' you know the pink slips are already printed. It’s brutal watching long-term employees get treated like disposable hardware while the executives pat themselves on the back for hitting quarterly targets. They count the savings on a spreadsheet, but they never account for the institutional knowledge walking out the door. Just keep your head down, update your resume, and don't expect the company to look out for you. We’re all just digits in their grand transition plan.

That’s a tough situation, and I feel for everyone affected in Lansing right now. It is deeply frustrating to watch the corporate machine churn through people like they are interchangeable parts, especially when you have invested a decade of your life into the mission. While it is true that the industry is shifting rapidly toward electrification, it’s a shame that the human cost is always the first thing ignored in the name of efficiency. Hopefully, there is some kind of severance package or support system in place for those getting the boot today.
