Thinking of leaving... what are my chances of getting rehired later?

Been at GM (Manufacturing) for 3 years now, and honestly, I'm not sure this is the right place for me. I've got a lead on a role at a smaller company that seems more aligned with my long-term goals. But I'm worried about burning bridges. Has anyone left GM voluntarily and then successfully come back later? What kind of reputation do you get for leaving, even if it's on good terms? I'm just weighing my options. The benefits are good here, but I'm not learning or growing. Worried about my skillset becoming obsolete. Any advice or experiences would be greatly appreciated.

I know someone who left after 5 years for a startup, and they were welcomed back about two years later when the startup folded. They came back at a higher level, even. It really depends on your performance, how you leave (give plenty of notice, be professional), and the needs of the company when you try to return. Keep in touch with your network, it can't hurt.

Honestly, rehire chances are always a gamble. They say 'once GM, always GM,' but that doesn't mean a guaranteed job back. If you leave, be prepared to move on permanently. The fact that you aren't growing is a legitimate concern, though. Don't stay somewhere just for the benefits if it's killing your soul. Maybe have a serious talk with your manager first. Make sure they know you want more challenges, and see if that changes anything before you jump ship.
