It is the same old cycle every quarter. Wall Street demands a specific margin, and the folks in Detroit just look at the payroll numbers in Lansing like they are items on a spreadsheet. They talk a big game about an electric future, but you cannot build a global car company on the backs of people you keep laying off every time a project hits a snag. It is short-sighted, and frankly, the lack of loyalty to the legacy workforce is what is going to kill their production quality in the long run.
I have been working the floor for fifteen years, and honestly, the silence from the upper levels is the worst part. We hear all these buzzwords about pivoting to EVs and capturing market share, but nobody explains how we are supposed to scale up when they are gutting the very people who have the institutional knowledge to make it happen. They are chasing a valuation while destroying the foundation. It is incredibly demoralizing to watch them trade our livelihoods for a temporary bump in the stock price.
