Hey, I get it. Survivor's guilt is real. Don't beat yourself up too much. You didn't choose who stayed or left. Focus on supporting your remaining team and doing your best work. Maybe mentor some of the newer engineers or try to improve processes to ease the workload. Leaving won't necessarily solve anything; it might just shift the burden to someone else. If the workload is truly unsustainable, document it and discuss it with your manager.
Seriously? Feeling guilty for having a job? Get real. GM is a business, not a charity. They made cuts, you survived. Use this opportunity to shine, prove why you were kept, and maybe even position yourself for a promotion. Morale is always in the toilet after layoffs, but it eventually bounces back. Buckle down, show some initiative, and stop wallowing in self-pity. Your colleagues who were let go would probably want you to make the most of the situation.
