GM layoffs - is this the new normal?

So, another 1000 people just got the axe at GM, reported around June 22nd. This is on top of all the other cuts we've seen. It's starting to feel like a constant state of flux over there. Are they just trimming fat or is something more fundamental going on? I know the auto industry is always shifting with EVs and tech, but these frequent, large-scale layoffs make it feel unstable. We've seen similar things at other manufacturers too. Makes you wonder about job security in the long run, even for those who think they are safe. What are your thoughts on the strategy behind these moves? Is it just cyclical, or is GM genuinely struggling to adapt? Honestly, it's hard to say if it's just 'trimming fat' or something deeper. The entire auto industry is undergoing massive changes with the shift to electric vehicles and new technologies. Companies are restructuring to adapt, and unfortunately, that often means workforce reductions. It's definitely a tough time for employees, and job security feels precarious across the board, not just at GM. Let's hope they find a more stable path forward.

This feels like more than just typical industry cycles. The sheer frequency and scale of these layoffs at GM are concerning.
