Struggling to justify staying at GM

Honestly, at what point does it stop? The news about the 361 employees in Lansing is just another punch in the gut. I feel like we’re constantly in a cycle of 'restructuring' that never actually fixes the underlying rot in the middle management. I have friends at other OEMs who have been hiring consistently, while here it feels like we’re just waiting for the next axe to fall. I used to be proud to say I worked at GM. Now, it just feels like we’re holding our breath for half the year. The constant uncertainty is draining my energy, and I’m finding it harder to put in the effort when I see how little institutional loyalty there is toward the staff. Are we just waiting for the next quarterly report to see who’s on the chopping block next? I’m genuinely curious if anyone else is actively interviewing right now. I don't want to be the last one left on a sinking ship, but the golden handcuffs make it tough to pull the plug. Let's talk about exit strategies.

I feel you on that. The constant restructuring has created a culture of anxiety where nobody wants to innovate because they're terrified of being the next one on the list. It’s draining to put in the effort when the leadership seems more focused on stock prices and short-term optics than the actual people doing the heavy lifting. I’ve seen some of the best talent leave for tech or other automakers because the instability here is just impossible to ignore anymore. It’s hard to stay loyal when the company doesn't feel loyal to you.

You're definitely not alone in feeling this way. It's been a rough ride lately, and the news about Lansing really hit home for a lot of us. Honestly, middle management bloat is a massive issue that never seems to get addressed, no matter how many rounds of layoffs they push through. It feels like we're just rearranging deck chairs on a sinking ship while the actual problems continue to fester. A lot of us are polishing our resumes because waiting for the next shoe to drop is just no way to live.
