Anyone else hearing whispers about 'restructuring' in Propulsion?

I've been at GM (Tech Center) for 8 years, Powertrain division, specifically working on transmission controls. Lately, things have felt...off. My manager's been super vague in our 1:1s, and there's been a lot of closed-door meetings happening. The vibe is definitely 'brace yourselves'. Last time this happened, it wasn't pretty – a bunch of senior engineers with decades of experience were let go. I'm not sure if it's just my paranoia kicking in, but has anyone else noticed anything similar in their departments? My buddy in Manufacturing says they are being asked to find efficiency gains, but he didn't specify how.

Yeah, I'm hearing similar rumblings in the EV Propulsion group. Fewer new projects being greenlit, and a lot of talk about 'synergies' which usually means someone's job is getting made redundant. Start polishing up that resume, just in case. It's always better to be prepared. Maybe look at companies like BorgWarner? Good luck, hang in there.

Honestly, this is GM. There are ALWAYS rumors of restructuring. Remember the last 'big' one that was supposed to gut the entire validation team? Turned out to be a minor reshuffling of desks and a couple of retirements. Don't panic until you see actual pink slips. Focus on your work, and try not to get caught up in the gossip mill. It will drive you nuts.
