Well, it finally happened. Got the call this morning. Was told my role was being 'eliminated'. I was a Senior Project Engineer in the Body Shop, been with GM for 5 years. Honestly, I saw the writing on the wall with all the automation projects they've been pushing. The severance package was okay - 2 weeks for every year of service, plus outplacement services for a few months. I'm not thrilled, but it could be worse. I'm mostly worried about finding another job quickly, especially with the market the way it is. Anyone else been through this recently? What are some things I should be doing *right now* to get back on my feet? Happy to answer any questions about my experience, severance, or anything else related to being laid off.

Sorry to hear that, man. That's rough. The auto industry can be brutal. Two weeks per year isn't bad, though. I'd hit up LinkedIn *hard* and see if any of your former GM colleagues have moved on to better things. They might have an inside track somewhere. Good luck with the job search!

Five years isn't a huge investment of time to have been let go. I am not a fan of their electric vehicle pivot. Were you in one of the gas engine segments? I'd guess it's cost savings, not automation. If you had been there longer, you may have gotten a better severance. Outplacement is worthless, though, in my experience, but the extra pay is welcome.
