Well, it finally happened. Got the call this morning. Laid off. I was a software engineer in the infotainment group, been with the company for 5 years. They said it was a 'restructuring' and my position was 'eliminated.' BS. They walked me out the door like a criminal. Five years of my life, gone. The severance is okay, I guess, but it doesn't make up for the stress and uncertainty. I'm angry, I'm scared, and honestly, I'm just really bummed. Time to start the job hunt, I guess. Any advice on where to start?

That sucks to hear, man. The automotive industry is brutal, and 'restructuring' is corporate speak for 'we messed up and you're paying for it.' Hit up your network hard. Let everyone know you're looking. Polish that resume and LinkedIn. File for unemployment ASAP. It's a process, but it buys you time. Don't be afraid to explore options outside infotainment, too. Good luck; you'll land on your feet.

Five years isn't nothing. Use that severance wisely. Maybe think about taking some time off before jumping back into the grind. Job market's rough, but software engineers are still in demand. Start networking, update your LinkedIn, and apply for unemployment to give yourself some breathing room. Good luck with the job search! It's okay to feel bummed out; acknowledge it, then get back to it.
