Anyone else feeling the chill at GS? Signs of impending cuts?

Hey everyone, been at GS for a few years now in NYC. Lately, there's been this weird vibe going around. My team's manager has been dropping hints about 'strategic realignment' and 'optimizing resources' more than usual. Plus, I've noticed a few fewer people in the cafeteria these past few weeks. No official word, of course, but the whispers are definitely getting louder. My work has been piling up, and it feels like we're expected to do more with less. Anyone else in different divisions or locations experiencing similar 'efficiency' drives? Is this the prelude to something bigger, or am I just overthinking things? Trying to gauge if this is firm-wide or just localized to my department. Any insights would be appreciated.

I've been hearing similar murmurs from friends in other departments. The 'optimizing resources' talk has been doing the rounds for a while now, but it feels more pointed recently. It's unsettling, for sure, especially when projects are still being pushed through with tight deadlines. Definitely makes you wonder what the next few months will bring.

That 'weird vibe' is definitely palpable. I'm in London, and while the language might be slightly different, the underlying message about efficiency and headcount is the same. Management seems to be under a lot of pressure, and unfortunately, that often trickles down. Keep your resume updated, just in case.
