Wondering about potential impacts on bonus payouts this year

With all the noise about cost-cutting and potential headcount reductions (even if unofficial) at GS, I'm getting a bit nervous about the bonus pool this year. Anyone have any thoughts on how this might play out? Usually, performance is the main driver, but I feel like macro conditions and firm-wide profitability are going to be under a microscope more than ever. If the firm is really looking to conserve cash, I can't imagine bonuses will be looking too pretty. Trying to set realistic expectations for myself and my family. Anyone else in similar roles seeing this pressure or have insights into how bonuses might be affected?

Any GS folks seeing increased 'efficiency' talks internally?

Hey everyone, been hearing a lot more chatter about 'streamlining operations' and 'enhancing productivity' in the internal town halls at Goldman lately. It's been ramped up quite a bit in the last quarter. Not seeing any official announcements or numbers, but the language feels... familiar. Anyone else in other divisions picking up on this? Trying to gauge if this is just general corporate speak or if there's something more brewing under the surface. Feels like the calm before a storm, and I'm just trying to prepare myself mentally, or maybe start updating the resume just in case. Anyone have any intel or similar vibes from their teams?

Anyone else notice the silence from leadership on future outlook?

It's been quiet on the town hall front lately. Usually, around this time of year, we'd get some kind of update on the firm's strategy, outlook, maybe some divisional targets. But crickets. My team lead is just saying 'business as usual' but you can feel the tension. People are constantly refreshing internal news feeds and LinkedIn. It feels like they're waiting for the other shoe to drop, but nobody knows what that shoe is or when it's going to land. Just feels like a weirdly uncertain time, even for GS. Anyone else picking up on this vibe or am I just overthinking it?

Layoff Report

Trying to figure out my next steps after 7 years in operations...

Been at GS for 7 years in the middle office/operations side. Just got the news today that my role is being eliminated. No warning, no performance issues, just a business decision apparently. My manager was pretty tight-lipped, just said it's part of a broader restructuring. Feeling pretty blindsided and honestly, a bit scared. I've always considered myself a lifer here, built my career here. Now I'm staring at my resume for the first time in nearly a decade. Anyone else in a similar boat? What are you guys doing to prep? Any recruiters you'd recommend reaching out to? Trying to stay positive but it's tough right now.

Just got laid off - unexpectedly brutal

Well, it finally happened. Got the call this morning. Was walked out within the hour. I was an analyst in IBD (industrials team) for 2 years. Honestly, I'm still in shock. Performance reviews were good, even got a decent bonus last year. They said it was 'restructuring' and 'performance-related,' but the whole thing felt incredibly impersonal. HR gave me a packet of info and told me to reach out if I had questions. I'm so angry and confused right now. Has anyone else experienced something similar? The lack of transparency is infuriating. Going to need to start hitting the job boards immediately. Any advice for someone unexpectedly unemployed in this climate?

Rumor mill is churning - hearing whispers about Q1 headcount cuts?

Anyone else hearing chatter about potential layoffs hitting in Q1? I'm in tech (VP level) and things have been...quiet. Too quiet. Usually Q1 is busy with planning and new initiatives, but it feels like everyone's holding their breath. I overheard a conversation between two MDs the other day mentioning 'efficiency measures' and 'resource optimization,' which, let's be honest, is code for 'people are getting canned.' I've been through this before, and the lead-up is always the worst. Anyone have any concrete info, or is it just my anxiety getting the best of me? I've been here for 8 years and built a good reputation but with the market the way it is, who knows what will happen? I'm bracing myself and trying to update my resume, just in case.

Just survived RIF - feeling guilty AF

So, rounds of layoffs hit my team (credit risk) yesterday. I somehow made it through, but a lot of really talented people didn't. People I've worked closely with for years. Now I'm sitting here with this overwhelming sense of guilt. Like, why me? What did I do to deserve staying when others were let go? My manager just told us to 'stay focused' and 'support each other,' but it's hard to focus when half the team is gone and the rest of us are walking on eggshells. Anyone else been through this and have advice on how to cope?

Severance package details - what to expect?

Hypothetically speaking, what kind of severance are people getting if they're laid off right now? I'm a VP in compliance, been here 12 years. Trying to get a sense of what to expect in terms of months of salary, benefits continuation, outplacement services, etc. I know it varies by role and tenure, but any recent datapoints would be appreciated. HR isn't exactly forthcoming with information, and trying to plan ahead here. DM me if you prefer to stay anonymous.

Anyone else feel like the sword of Damocles is hanging over their head?

I'm in TMT and honestly, the vibes are just off. We're constantly told to be 'efficient' and 'streamline processes,' which, let's be real, is code for 'someone's getting the axe.' I've been here for 7 years, put in the hours, and consistently get 'exceeds expectations' on my reviews. But that doesn't seem to matter anymore. I keep seeing familiar faces disappear from the internal directory. Anyone else experiencing this? What's your team doing to prepare, or is it just me spiraling?

Interview

Just got through final round interview - some insights

Had my final round interview for an Associate position in Investment Banking (Industrials Group) last week. Thought I'd share some points. Mostly behavioral questions. Lots of 'tell me about a time when...' scenarios. Be prepared to talk about deals you've followed (even if it's just news articles). They drilled me on my understanding of valuation multiples. Technicals weren't crazy hard, but definitely need to know your stuff. Biggest advice: be confident and show genuine interest. They can smell BS a mile away. Good luck to anyone else interviewing!

Severance Package Question - Garden Leave?

Hypothetically speaking, if layoffs were to happen (again), does anyone know what the standard severance package looks like these days? Specifically curious about garden leave. Last time, it was X weeks of base + Y weeks per year of service. Is that still the norm? I'm trying to plan ahead, just in case. Seeing some worrying signs in my division. Also, is bonus pro-rated if you get the axe mid-year?

Anyone else feeling super uneasy right now?

I'm in TMT, been here for almost 5 years now. I know the markets are… the markets. But the vibe has been totally off lately. More meetings about 'efficiency' and 'resource allocation' than I can count. My skip-level has been unusually chatty, asking about my 'long-term goals' which I know is HR speak for 'brush up that resume'. Anyone else feeling the same tension? Or am I just being paranoid?
