Small Wisconsin site just got hit, is this the start of something bigger?

Just saw the WARN notice for the Wisconsin location—25 people cut on Sept 8th. I know it’s a smaller number compared to the massive offshore cuts we heard about earlier this year, but it feels like the firm is just trimming the edges now. If they are going after the smaller regional offices, where is the hammer going to fall next? My team hasn’t heard a peep from leadership about wider plans, but the atmosphere on the floor is pretty tense. Everyone is just keeping their heads down and hoping they aren't the next ones on a list. Is anyone else seeing these smaller satellite offices getting picked off, or is this just standard cleanup for them? Trying to figure out if I should start prepping my resume now or if I’m just being paranoid.

The firm always starts with these quiet, regional trims to gauge the reaction before they move to the major hubs. Don't let the small headcount fool you; this is almost certainly the first wave of a broader headcount reduction strategy for the quarter. Leadership is keeping quiet because they don't want a full-blown productivity collapse before the fiscal year ends. Stay sharp and update your resume now, because if they are thinning out the smaller sites, the core offices are likely being evaluated for their own round of consolidation soon.

Honestly, I wouldn't panic just yet. GS has been shuffling staff between onshore and offshore locations for months, and sometimes these WARN notices are just the technicalities of winding down a specific product line or service that didn't scale as expected. It’s definitely nerve-wracking when you see the numbers hit, but this looks more like standard operational restructuring than the start of a massive, firm-wide bloodbath. Keep your head down, do your job, and let the dust settle before you assume your specific team is next on the chopping block.
